Why fountains help fussy drinkers
Some cats take to a moving stream; others prefer a bowl. Keep fresh water available in a familiar bowl while introducing a fountain.
Choose a design that is easy to refill and take apart. A filter does not replace regular cleaning or fresh water.
Keeping the water clean
Replace the filter as recommended and rinse the pump every week or two to keep the flow quiet and the water clear.
Stainless steel and ceramic bowls are easier to keep hygienic than plastic and are kinder to chin-prone cats.
Capacity, noise, and getting a cat to switch
Capacity matters more than it looks if you are out all day. A pump running dry is loud, and a cat who hears that once will often refuse the fountain afterwards — so size the reservoir for the longest stretch it will go unattended rather than for the number of cats.
Keep the old bowl for a fortnight after the fountain arrives. Some cats take days to switch, and removing the alternative on day one is how a cat ends up drinking nothing at all.

Common questions
Are water fountains noisy?
Most run very quietly. Keeping the reservoir topped up and the pump clean stops the gurgling sound that comes from a low water level.
How often should I change the filter?
Typically every 2–4 weeks, depending on use and how many pets drink from it. Check the product page for the exact schedule.
Can dogs use them?
Smaller fountains suit cats and small dogs. For larger dogs, choose a higher-capacity model.
