A pesticide works by poisoning a parasite; dimethicone works by trapping it, which is a genuinely different mechanism and one reason it's reached for when a pesticide-free option matters.

This is a line-on treatment for mites, fleas and lice, applied to the back of the neck. Rather than a pesticide, it uses dimethicone at 502 g/l, which physically immobilises parasites by forming a layer they can't move through — they then fall from the fur or can be combed out.
