Most plush toys last one evening with a determined chewer, and the sad rag of stuffing afterwards is a familiar sight. Tuffy build differently: layers of material bonded together, sewn through several rows at a time, with webbing run along the seams where a dog's teeth naturally find purchase first. The aeroplane shape gives a big dog flat wings to grab rather than a round body that just gets crushed.

The construction is the whole story here. Ordinary plush has one layer of fabric and one line of stitching, so a single seam failure empties the toy in minutes. Bonded layers plus multiple stitch rows mean a dog has to work through each one in turn, and the seam webbing takes the shearing force. It is machine washable and air dries, which matters more than it sounds: a toy that can go in the wash stays in circulation instead of going in the bin.

No toy is indestructible. Tuffy toys are tough, not chew-proof, and a dog left alone with one for long enough will eventually find a way in. Treat it as a supervised play and fetch toy, check the seams every so often, and retire it once an inner layer starts showing through rather than waiting for stuffing to appear.

Who it's for: Owners of enthusiastic chewers who are tired of replacing plush toys weekly and want one that survives fetch, a bit of tug and the occasional pond.
