What makes a bed genuinely washable
The phrase gets used loosely, so check two things: a cover that actually unzips all the way off (not a sewn-in one you have to wrestle), and an inner that is either washable itself or sealed against moisture. A removable cover you can throw in at 30°C is what keeps the smell down between deep cleans.
Faux-fur and plush covers wash well but need a low-heat tumble or air dry to keep their loft. Flat canvas and waterproof-backed covers are the most forgiving if your dog is a heavy shedder or prone to the odd accident.

Can I put the whole dog bed in the washing machine?
Only smaller flat-pad and crate-mat styles fit a domestic drum whole. For most beds you unzip and wash the cover, then spot-clean or hand-wash the inner foam or filling separately.
What temperature should I wash a dog bed cover at?
Check the label, but 30–40°C is standard and kills most odour-causing bacteria. A monthly 60°C wash (if the fabric allows) helps with dust mites and fleas.
How do I get the dog smell out?
Add half a cup of white vinegar to the rinse, skip fabric softener (it traps odour), and dry the cover fully — damp filling is what makes a bed smell sour.
